I'm sure many of you remember the days when Chester had numerous Cinemas, dancehalls and (at least one) theatre.
Now we have 3 nightclubs, many many bars and places to eat, but NONE of the above.
The Odeon was bought by Brook Leisure two years ago and they have been trying to get plans passed to turn it into yet another nightclub.
We Cestrians (I was born in Stanley Place, within the Walls) who remain in the City want an Arts Centre with Cinema/theatre/music venue/art gallery/meeting place for all of us. The Odeon would be ideal for this.
When you come to visit do you want the streets full of drunken 18 to 25 year olds ? Or would you like something else to do in the evenings ?
Objections to Brook Leisure's plans can be made via the internet to "Cheshire West and Chester" Council, "Planning", "Chester Area Planning", "Northgate Street", "Odeon". Odeon is about 5th and 6th on the list.
Final dates for objection are today (10th. Dec.) and tomorrow (11th. Dec.)
Stress the "visitor" aspect as the Council are desperate to encourage overnight stays by visitors.
