Lynton House in Sandy Lane, Helsby?

Postby solopolo »

Please forgive me, I am a Southerner  but my grandmother & her family were from Chester. I am researching my family history & am having enormous problems tracking down my great aunty Ethel (surname not known, but could be Lawson/Lawton or Joy????).
Her last known address was LYNTON House, Sandy Lane, Helsby, Nr.Warrington, WA6 9BD in the 1970's I believe.
It's a long shot but is there anyone who knows/knew this address? Or maybe even knows of Ethel???
Any information would be a big help. :D
many many thanks!

Hi I grew up in Sandy Lane during the sixties and seventies and I think I know the house you mean.
I still live in Helsby and occasionally walk up Sandy lane with the kids, as its the quickest way to get to Helsby hill from my house.
I still know a few people who live there, that were there in the 70s next time I pass I could ask around for you if you like. Let me know your Email address or if not I will reply to this thread but that may be weeks or even Months away.
I did my family tree a while back and appreciate some of the difficulties
bye

Thank you for that kind offer. It would be lovely to know what sort of place Lynton House was (maybe still is?) ...as I wonder if it was some sort of Old-Folks home?
Having done a bit more research I think it is likely that Ethel's surname was LAWSON, sister of Maggie & Mary & John Albert.
Ethel, I believe, raised Maggie's baby son as her own, in Helsby.
If any of this is familiar to anyone...I'd love to hear from you...

Hi Judith, I asked Dad about the people who lived at Lynton House before the present occupants. They were a large family called Gallimore. He couldn’t give me any more information. I look after Cerys & Oscar on a Monday and Cerys also on Tuesday and Wednesday. I asked one of my friends on Sandy Lane about who lived at Lynton House, and she didn’t know. However, there is someone else who has lived on Sandy Lane for a long while, so as soon as I get an opportunity I will go and ask...

Hi all,
Thank you SO much for taking an interest, it's very kind of you.
Since I posted my original question on here asking for info on Lynton House & Great Aunt Ethel....I have been busy researching & eventually found out that my great-aunt Ethel was actually born Ethel Lawson (1896) and (this was huge news to me & my family!!) she married a man named Harry Gallimore & had 8 children!! So you are perfectly spot on! Thank you....and it tells me that Lynton House probably wasn't a "retirement home" after all, lol, it was in fact Ethel & Harry's family home!
It is so nice to be able to tie all these loose ends together...
Many thanks!
Tracey :)
